Chloride Power Electronics manufactures one of the reliable and dependable emergeny lighting inverters in the industry. Chloride lighting inverter is equiped with 90 minute battery back up and meets the UL 924 standards. Chloride lighting inverter ranges from 10 to 75 KVA with unity output power factor. All Chloride lighting inverters are three phase.
Low-Impedance Power Conditioning vs. Surge Suppression
Characteristics of Surge Suppression Technology
¥ Surge suppressors do not operate until their clamp voltage is exceeded (approximately 250 V on a 120 V system). Voltage disturbances lower than the clamp voltage can pass right through the suppressor into the equipment being protected.
¥ Surge suppressors offer no protection from disruptive high-frequency noise.
¥ By its very design, a surge suppressor can convert less damaging normal-mode disturbances to more damaging common-mode noise.
¥ Over time, a surge suppressor can fail, usually leaving the user with no indication that his equipment is unprotected.
¥ Specifications such as joule ratings and response time are typically used to characterize performance levels of surge suppressors. However, these specifications have little bearing on the level of protection provided.
Advantages of ONEAC Low-Impedance Power Conditioning Technology (Oneac Power Conditioner)
In comparison, the level of protection offered by low-impedance power conditioning is at least one order of magnitude larger than that offered by a surge suppression device. Ensuring reliable operation of critical equipment, ONEAC power conditioner virtually takes out all power disturbances without introduction of new power problems of its own.
¥ ONEAC UPS and ONEAC power conditioners virtually eliminate all possible disturbances, no matter what is their characteristics.
¥ ONEAC UPS and ONEAC power conditioners Provide round the clock power conditioning
¥ ONEAC UPS and ONEAC power conditioners are designed to eliminate disturbances, not just divert them, ONEAC power conditioners do not create destructive noise conversions.
¥ Provided with a five-year warranty, ONEAC medical grade power conditioners are designed to improve reliability and longevity of the connected electronics .
¥ The performance of ONEAC products is specified via let-through voltage Ñ the voltage that gets through when subjected to a standardized input transient Ñ fully defining the level of protection offered.
Common Asked Questions Regarding Surge Suppression
Q: This surge suppression device meets UL1449. Does the ONEAC power conditioning device?
A: UL1449 is a standard developed by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) to ensure the safety of a surge suppressor. It does include a surge test designed to determine whether a product will safely withstand (no flame, sparks, etc.) the types of surges it may be subjected to in the field. If the manufacturer so desires, he can have the surge test let-through voltage measured by UL. However, the mere statement that a product meets UL1449 has no bearing on the level of protection offered. ONEAC UPS and ONEAC power conditioners are classified by UL not as surge suppressors but as power supplies and therefore, are listed under the power supply standards Ñ UL1012 and UL1778.
®
Q: The light on the surge protector indicates it is providing protection, right?
A: Not necessarily. The fact that a surge suppressors light is illuminated does not mean it is actually providing protection. On some surge suppressors, the light may merely indicate that the suppressor is plugged in and the power is on. In reality, the device may have failed, providing absolutely no protection to the load. In contrast, ONEAC UPS and ONEAC power conditioners constantly provide power conditioning to the load, even when the power is turned off.
Q: ONEAC states that surge suppressors fail. Why then, does ONEAC employ Metal Oxide Varistors (MOV) in its products?
A: Properly utilized surge suppressors are useful as integral components of a power conditioning device.
ONEAC UPS and ONEAC power conditioners employ surge suppressors in its power conditioning products as a first line of defense to extremely severe transients, such as lightning. Also, the failure rate of an MOV is directly related to the number of times the device operates or fires. For example, an MOV that is designed to clamp at 250 V will fire far more often than one designed to clamp at 1500 V. This causes the one that clamps at 250 V to have a much shorter lifetime. The suppressors employed in ONEAC UPS and ONEAC power conditioners operate only when subjected to these extremely severe (and extremely rare) disturbances.
System Availability
System availability is a measurement of how many hours a year the system is available to the users. The same applies to power. Power is most important component when the calculate system availability. By far power is the largest reason for computer downtime. Thus the IT managers by increasing power reliability they automatically increase the system availability.
By increasing MTBF (mean time between failures) and reducing MTTR (mean time between repairs) of the individual components in critical power distribution system such as MGE Uninterruptible Power Supply or as some may say APC Uninteruptable Power Supply (UPS), PDI Power Distribution Unit (PDU), Static Transfer Switch (STS) the over all power availability will increase. It is not just the IT world that is concerned with power availability and reliability but more critical medical industry is consumed by it. The Medical Grade Power Supply and online UPS medical grade have made a significant improvement in medical power reliability. The MTBF can me improved by two ways, one, increase the reliability of individual components of equipment, two, increase the redundancy. There is a limit to increasing the reliability of components because everything will fail at some point in time. The estimated MTBF for most components range between 50,000 and 200,000 hours.
In comparison MTBF can be improved three to six times by adding redundancy to the system. This can be done by doubling Uninterruptible Power Supply or Uninteruptable Power Supply (UPS), Twinsource Static Transfer Switch (STS) and Power Distribution Unit (PDU). Same could be said about online UPS medical grade and Medical Grade Power Supply. In reality we can maximize our cost by achieving optimum reliability by specifying very reliable but not prohibitive in cost components with a redundant configuration. Chloride, MGE, Powerware and APC over the years has strived to achieve highly reliable UPS by doing both.
Reducing MTTR is achieved by easily swappable components. It would be best it this could be accomplished while the equipment were hot therefore hot-swappable. This would be most useful since the redundant failed component can be replaced while the system is still operational. To some degree Chloride, APC, Powerware, Twinsource, PDI, and MGE have achieved this task to varying degrees. One must study the different designs in detail to make sure that it meets their needs and requirements. The (UPS) Uninterruptible Power Supply or Uninteruptable Power Supply (UPS) industry has made a great effort in achieving higher system reliability. Let it be said that this is true for the online UPS medical grade and Medical Grade Power Supply industry as well.
The IT and facility personnel must choose their own best compromise between availability and cost. This choice is some times rated by power availability index (PA). A single UPS and PDU at a lower cost has a PA-1 rating. This system has a limited reliability due to the reliability of its least reliable component. Even though a redundant UPS and PDU system with PA-2 rating has better system reliability the repairs could be lengthy and expensive with major downtime implications.
The PA-3 rated modular UPS offers same high availability level with multiple hot-swappable components and redundant batteries. This will eliminate the downtime requirement for servicing.
